Rosacea

What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a common skin disease that typically affects people over 30 years of age. Rosacea will usually appear on the face, more than likely causing inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead and eyelids. However in some cases rosacea can also occur on the neck, chest, scalp or ears.
Symptoms typically begin with flushing and inflammation, with the skin turning red for a short period of time. However as the condition progresses, so do the symptoms; these include burning and stinging sensations, permanent redness and spots.
It may cause redness, increased prominence of blood vessels, swelling and even skin eruptions similar to acne. Early diagnosis of rosacea can significantly increase the effect of any treatments, and prevent the condition from deteriorating.

How does Rosacea work?
Before the treatment, we will apply a cold gel to the area that will be treated. We will then deliver a pulse of light to the target area. IPL/ Laser is a selective pulsed light energy that precisely absorbed by the target areas, without damaging the patients skin. selectively heating and closing off blood vessels, IPL reduces the lesions, whilst sparing any nearby tissue from injury.
What Does the Rosacea Treatment Involve?
Intense Pulsed Light therapy works by emitting a range of different wavelengths in each pulse of light. These pulses of lights are targeted to areas in the skin which are different in colour to the surrounding tissue; this includes scars, freckles, some birthmarks and other pigmented skin.
IPL treatment is a less invasive alternative to chemical peels. As such, it is often possible to return home immediately after treatment. As IPL targets the dermis without affecting the epidermis, any peeling and recovery time is normally reduced.
When can I expect to see results?
Depending on the reason for having the treatment, six to eight sessions may be required to achieve the desired result. Follow up treatments are recommended to maintain results. The treatment will provide a nice smooth gentle effect to the skin.
Does it hurt?
Most people can tolerate IPL treatment. It’s described as a rubber band snap on the skin. Topical anesthetic is an option, as can be too painful in sensitive areas for some patients although the majority of patients require no anesthesia. Each machine has a built in cooling system.
